In the presence of Ma’mun al-Rashid and during scholarly gatherings, Imam Reza (A.S.) engaged in intellectual debates where he presented strong arguments to clarify the legitimacy of Imamate. The letter of  Jawaami’ al-Shari’ah, in which he outlined all the fundamental beliefs and jurisprudential principles of Shi’a thought for Fazl ibn Sahl, is a reflection of this great achievement of the Imam.

At a time when Ma’mun preferred to keep the Imam away from the general public—seeking to sever the spiritual and emotional bond between the Imam and the people—Imam Reza (A.S.), on the contrary, made himself available and maintained contact with the people at every opportunity.

Even though Ma’mun deliberately chose the travel route from Madinah to Marv in a way that avoided cities like Kufa and Qom, known for their deep love for the Ahl al-Bayt, Imam Reza (A.S.) took advantage of every moment along this predetermined route to establish new connections between himself and the people.
