The Exceptional Tone of the Ayah of Tabligh!
Generally, it is evident from the verse itself that the subject is so important that if the Prophet does not proclaim it, it is as if he has not performed any part of his prophetic mission. Surah al-Ma’idah, according to both Shia and Sunni consensus, is the last surah revealed to the Prophet, and these verses are among the final revelations he received.
The Ayah of Tabligh and the Shia Question!
The Shia asks: What is this command that is among the final commands and so crucial that if the Prophet does not proclaim it, everything becomes “as if it never was”? You cannot point to any subject from the last years of the Prophet’s life that holds such significance — that if it is not announced, it is as if nothing has been announced.
The Subject of Tabligh in the Verse!
But we (the Shia) say that the subject is the issue of *Imamate* — that if it is not proclaimed, then everything becomes “as if it never was,” meaning the structure of Islam would fall apart. Moreover, the Shia present evidence from Sunni books and traditions that this verse was revealed at Ghadir Khumm.

آیت تبلیغ کا غیر معمولی لحجہ!
اجمالًا خود آیت سے ظاہر ہوتا ہے کہ موضوع اتنا اہم ہے کہ اگر پیغمبر اس کو تبلیغ نہ کریں تو گویا انہوں نے رسالت کا کوئی کام انجام ہی نہیں دیا۔ سورۂ مائدہ، شیعہ و سنی کے اتفاق سے، آخری سورت ہے جو پیغمبر پر نازل ہوئی اور یہ آیات بھی ان آخری آیات میں سے ہیں جو پیغمبر پر نازل ہوئیں۔
آیتِ تبلیغ اور شیعہ کا سوال!
شیعہ سوال کرتا ہے کہ یہ حکم جو کہ آخری احکام میں سے ہے اور اتنا اہم ہے کہ اگر پیغمبر اس کو ابلاغ نہ کریں تو سب کچھ “کَأَن لَم یَکُن” ہو جاتا ہے، وہ کیا چیز ہے؟ آپ کوئی ایسا موضوع نہیں دکھا سکتے جو پیغمبر کی عمر کے آخری سالوں سے متعلق ہو اور اس درجہ کی اہمیت رکھتا ہو کہ اگر اس کا اعلان نہ کیا جائے تو کچھ بھی اعلان نہیں ہوا۔
آیت تبلیغ میں تبلیغ کا مصداق!
لیکن ہم (شیعہ) کہتے ہیں کہ وہ موضوع، مسئلۂ امامت ہے کہ اگر وہ نہ ہو تو سب کچھ “کَأَن لَم یَکُن” ہے، یعنی اسلام کا شیرازہ بکھر جاتا ہے۔ اس کے علاوہ، شیعہ خود اہل سنت کی کتب اور روایات سے دلیل پیش کرتا ہے کہ یہ آیت غدیر خم میں نازل ہوئی تھی۔
